Job Opportunity: Associate


Job Summary


The Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) is seeking a full-time Associate based in Singapore. The position provides an exciting opportunity in a pioneering organization representing Canadian commercial interests in ASEAN.


Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate will assist in the full membership sales cycle, source and close new event-, marketing- and research-based sponsorships, and be a key contributor to the development and implementation of CABC’s policy, events, and research programs.



Responsibilities


The Associate Director will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director and the CABC Operating Committee in the following tasks:


Primary (80%)

  • Serve as a relationship manager and liaise with CABC internal (i.e. Board, staff, and members) and external stakeholders to identify and execute on partnerships across the ASEAN region. This covers the full membership and sponsorship sales cycle, including closing new members, ensuring ongoing account success for all Member categories, and renewals

  • Support or lead the delivery of networking and thought leadership opportunities for CABC Members, including virtual and in-person events as well as content collaborations

  • Develop event concepts and proposals, including funding proposals as a not-for-profit

  • Support CABC’s event & thought leadership development including sourcing and coordinating research partnerships with leading think tanks and universities


Secondary (20%)

  • Provide input to CABC’s events and communications activities to support CABC’s membership outreach and advocacy efforts

  • Assist in maintaining project-based budgets, liaise with CABC’s accounting services provider and prepare/ deliver financial reports to the Executive Director and Society Officer

  • Support the execution of all day-to-day business, administration, financial reporting, and corporate governance for an international not-for-profit



Required Qualifications

  • Right to live and work in Singapore is preferred. Open to candidates currently based in ASEAN-6 countries only.

  • Bachelor or Masters degree (preferred) in business, communications, international relations, public policy, or other related field.

  • Experience in business development/ membership recruitment is an advantage, especially in working with senior business executives

  • Experience in public policy/ government relations, or with government agencies in trade or foreign affairs with a network in Canada and ASEAN.

  • Proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with a wide array of stakeholders.

  • A high degree of independence and comfort working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to conduct independent research on potential members and to quickly learn the fundamentals of new industries and business models.

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.

  • A demonstrated interest in international trade/ economic development; Familiarity with the Canada-ASEAN economic relationship is an asset.



Desired Experience

  • Work experience in both Canada and ASEAN countries or relevant to CABC’s interests

  • Events management

  • Accounting and financial modeling skills

  • Fluency in any of the major ASEAN languages and/or French

  • An MBA, Masters of Public Policy, or other relevant graduate degree preferred
