Osler: A Discussion of the Federal Government’s Plan For Oil and Gas Emissions

Sander Duncanson, a Partner in Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt‘s Regulatory, Indigenous, Environmental and Land law practice, was a guest on the ARC Energy Ideas Podcast on August 9, 2022 to discuss the Canadian federal government’s proposed options to cap and cut greenhouse gas emissions from the Canadian oil and gas sector. Sander, along with the hosts of the podcast, Peter Tertzakian and Jackie Forrest from the ARC Energy Research Institute, provided an overview of the federal government’s discussion paper and discussed the positive features of the paper, as well as several concerns. Sander, Peter and Jackie all agreed that the federal government’s policy, as currently proposed, has key flaws from the perspectives of both energy security and emissions reductions.
