The Mission of Canada to ASEAN in Jakarta is looking to fill two separate positions at the same level but with different responsibilities. The Mission is looking for very dynamic individuals willing to work in an exciting and fast-paced work environment. The two available positions are a Senior Trade Officer, and a Political Analyst.
Canada is a Strategic Partner of ASEAN, working closely together to advance issues of common interest on the trade and economic, political and security and socio-cultural front. Following the release of Canada’s Indo Pacific Strategy in 2022, Canada has several important initiatives and projects in the region that are currently being implemented.
The two individuals will need to maintain a comprehensive network of contacts, develop expertise on issues of interest to Canada, conduct research and analysis, write quality reports, and support the overall objectives of the mission, including events.Â
SENIOR TRADE OFFICER
The Senior Trade Officer will support our mission’s trade and economic engagement with ASEAN and will work on a variety of trade and economic files, including on priority sectors (e.g. clean technologies, agriculture, agri-food and food security, information and communication technologies energy transition, etc.). In addition to working with the ASEAN Secretariat, the Senior Trade Officer will work with diplomatic missions, businesses, associations, and other trade-related organizations.
POLITICAL OFFICER
The Political Officer will support our mission’s engagement with ASEAN’s Political-Security Community Pillar and ASEAN regional mechanisms. Research and analytic work, along with outreach activities will focus on a range of issues, including traditional and non-traditional security challenges, such as transnational crimes, non-proliferation, cybersecurity, terrorism and violent extremism, trafficking in persons and people smuggling and maritime security, and Women, Peace and Security. The Political Officer will work closely with the ASEAN Secretariat, other diplomatic missions as well as with civil society, think tanks and academic institutions.
