Building a Greener Future: Concordia University Partners with Vietnam on Cleantech Innovation

Concordia University in Montreal, renowned for its research in sustainability, energy efficiency, and smart technologies, is making impactful strides in Vietnam with support from Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service (TCS). Through strategic partnerships with the Department of Heat and Refrigeration Engineering at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMCUT) and the Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), Concordia is advancing clean technology initiatives, from solar energy solutions to net-zero buildings.
This collaboration is supported by the Concordia-Vietnam Seed Grant for Collaborations in Sustainability, enabling joint research and early-stage projects tackling global sustainability challenges.
The TCS team in Ho Chi Minh City played a pivotal role, connecting Concordia with leading Vietnamese institutions and providing market insights that helped shape the partnership.
Key results to date include:
Formal agreements with HCMCUT and HUST
Joint research on solar and net-zero building technologies
Seed funding for high-impact early-stage projects
Reciprocal visits between Canada and Vietnam
Engagement of over 75 researchers, including 25 emerging scholars
Projects addressing urgent global challenges such as sustainable water resilience, climate-resilient infrastructure, advanced compostable materials, and carbon reduction from organic waste.
This partnership showcases how international collaboration can drive innovation and sustainability on a global scale.
