Introduction
Canada and Indonesia officially signed the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA) in 2025, marking a major milestone in bilateral economic relations. As the ratification process in both countries is nearing completion, ICA-CEPA is expected to create new opportunities for trade, investment, and business collaboration across a wide range of sectors.
One of the sectors with significant growth potential is the halal economy. Indonesia, as the world’s largest Muslim-majority country and one of the largest halal consumer markets globally, continues to strengthen its position as a regional halal hub covering food and beverage, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, modest fashion, Islamic finance, and halal tourism. At the same time, Canada has developed a strong reputation as a trusted supplier of high-quality halal products and services, supported by advanced agri-food capabilities, strong regulatory standards, and a diverse multicultural business ecosystem.
The implementation of ICA-CEPA presents a strategic opportunity to deepen Canada-Indonesia cooperation in the halal sector through enhanced market access, investment facilitation, supply chain partnerships, standards cooperation, and business-to-business engagement.
In this context, the Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) and KADIN propose to organize a webinar on “Halal Opportunities in Canada and Indonesia after ICA-CEPA” to facilitate dialogue between government stakeholders, industry leaders, business associations, and the private sector from both countries.
Objectives
Highlight the opportunities created by ICA-CEPA for the halal sector in Canada and Indonesia.
Promote greater understanding of the halal ecosystem, regulatory frameworks, and market trends in both countries.
Explore potential collaboration in halal food, agri-food, consumer products, logistics, certification, and investment.
Facilitate networking and business engagement between Canadian and Indonesian stakeholders.
