Introduction
This session provides an overview of Canada’s evolving energy initiatives, with a focus on federal and provincial dynamics, the net-zero transition, and the continued role of hydrocarbons alongside renewables, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), and critical minerals.
This discussion will explore investment attractiveness, competitiveness, and regional cooperation, highlighting how Canada’s energy strategy and technological capabilities align with the needs of ASEAN investors, markets, and supply chains.
The Canada-ASEAN Business Council (CABC) Sustainable Energy Working Group (SEWG) represents a strategic initiative to harness Canada's world-class expertise in sustainable energy technologies to support ASEAN's ambitious energy goals. As ASEAN's energy demand surges - projected to more than double by 2050 amid rapid economic and demographic growth - the region faces critical challenges in balancing affordability, security, and sustainability. The SEWG's plan and priorities, outlined herein, emphasize a Partnerships, Pathway, and Procurement approach to foster actionable collaborations. This framework prioritizes knowledge exchange, joint ventures, and innovative procurement mechanisms to align innovations and investment between Canada and ASEAN in areas like hydropower, renewables, natural gas, hydrogen, and carbon management.
