On March 29th, 2017, at the Law offices of McCarthy Tétrault, the CABC hosted an oversubscribed roundtable featuring 18 distinguished private and public sector participants for a forward-looking discussion on trade relations between Canada and ASEAN.
With introductory remarks by Honorary Chairman, the Hon. Jean Charest, and welcoming remarks by distinguished guest, Ambassador Marie-Louise Hannan, the roundtable highlighted a general enthusiasm and eagerness for growth in Canada-ASEAN relations and trade opportunities. Noteworthy topics of discussion included timely dialogue around resource restrictions which have the potential to stifle trade agreement efforts, a comparison of the trade opportunity between Canada-China and Canada-ASEAN, development of SMEs as the engine of continued growth for trade between Canada and ASEAN, and the need for the liberalisation of services.
The CABC was delighted to welcome member organizations: BMO, National Bank, Ernst & Young, Tractus, United Overseas Bank, Norton Rose Fulbright, and our host member, McCarthy Tétrault. The impactful thought leadership exercise marks another step in the CABC’s continued advocacy efforts towards a successful negotiation of a Canada-ASEAN Free Trade Agreement.
