The CABC is excited to announce a Successful 2015 Business Forum!

A record crowd of business, government, diplomatic and thought leaders attended the CABC’s 2015 Canada-ASEAN Business Forum in Bangkok March 18-19th. The 250+ attendees came together to forge key connections and to learn about the tremendous opportunities for investors in the fast-growing 10-country ASEAN region.

The distinguished roster of speakers included the Honourable Ed Fast, Canadian Minister of International Trade (top right); Le Luong Minh, Secretary General of ASEAN; Dean Connor, President & CEO of Sun Life Financial (bottom left); Mike Durland, Group Head and CEO, Global Banking and Markets, Scotiabank; and M.R. Pridiyathorn, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand. The Forum boasted a host of breakout sessions, with panellists discussing everything from cutting-edge energy technology to the huge opportunities presented by infrastructure spending.

As Minister Fast noted in his keynote address, the Asian Development Bank has forecast economic growth of 5.6% in ASEAN this year, building on the nearly 5% expansion in 2014. Two-way trade between Canada and ASEAN nations has surged 44% in the past five years alone. Canadian companies now invest more in ASEAN nations collectively than in the any of India, Japan, Mainland China or South Korea. “We recognize an emerging dynamo when we see one,” Minister Fast told Forum participants. “Canada counts the countries of ASEAN among our most important partners – and these are very exciting times in our relationship.”

Attendees and panelists agreed that this is the perfect time to focus on the Canada-ASEAN economic corridor. With the region of 625 million people on the cusp of full economic integration, Canadian investors and the government are both taking notice. The CABC is excited to play a major role in this story.
